This page separates interpreting into five tracks: court and inquiry-stage interpreting, government-office and marriage-registration interpreting, business and conference interpreting, medical interpreting, and escort plus remote interpreting. The single most common misunderstanding is treating an interpreter and a certified translator as the same role. They are different duties, they leave different records, and different bodies certify them.

An interpreter conveys utterances. An interpreter is not an adviser, not a party's agent, and not a certifier of translations. Knowing that line prevents wasted appointments and damaged cases.

The question that always follows an assignment is what paper proves it. The answer differs by setting, and in no setting does the presence of an interpreter turn a translation into a certified translation.

How to avoid it: Always place two separate orders. Interpreting renders speech in the room; a certified translation is a document carrying the translator's certification and, where the destination requires it, Department of Consular Affairs legalisation.
How to avoid it: Where the outcome is legally binding — a statement, a registration, a juristic act — use an interpreter with no interest in the matter, so the rendering cannot later be attacked as partial.
How to avoid it: Say whether it is Mandarin or Cantonese, which Arabic variety, European or Latin-American Spanish, and the language the person actually speaks rather than the one printed in the passport.
How to avoid it: Multi-hour simultaneous work needs interpreters working in turns and a booth or equipment set. Confirm the equipment list, the room layout and a sound-check time in the booking confirmation.
How to avoid it: An interpreter solves communication, not paperwork. Before the appointment, confirm the affidavit has been translated and legalised as the registrar requires.
How to avoid it: In a hearing or a statement session the interpreter must render what was said. Summarising can distort the record and invite challenge. If a summary is wanted, produce it as a separate document afterwards.
How to avoid it: Many authorities expect the applicant and the interpreter to be present. Ask the receiving office whether remote interpreting is accepted before choosing the format.
How to avoid it: Send the agenda, slides, proper nouns, company names and technical terms at least one to two working days ahead, under a confidentiality agreement.
How to avoid it: Health data is sensitive personal data under the Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562. Put it in the assignment terms that no copies are kept and working notes are destroyed after the session.
How to avoid it: Agree the Roman-letter spelling from the passport before the session and use the same spelling across every document in the matter, so nothing is rejected for a name mismatch.
How to avoid it: Report the date as soon as the summons or appointment slip arrives, and allow for travel plus queueing. Exact timing depends on the authority's queue and is not something a provider can guarantee.

An interpreter renders speech in real time in the room — a courtroom, an interview room, a meeting. A translator produces a written text that can be proofread and may carry a certification. Interpreting does not produce a certified translation, and a certified translation does not remove the need for an interpreter on the day.
Where one spouse does not understand Thai, the registrar — following the Department of Provincial Administration's family-registration practice — proceeds with an interpreter and witnesses so that the spouse understands the legal effect of registering. Details vary between registry offices, so confirm with the office you will attend.
Not automatically. Interpreting in the courtroom is separate from certifying the accuracy of exhibits. If the court wants translations of foreign-language documents, they must be prepared separately with the translator's certification in the form the court directs.
Thailand has no sworn-interpreter register of the German, French or Spanish type. Acceptance is decided case by case by the body running the process — the court, the inquiry official or the registrar.

No. The interpreter renders the clinician's explanation and the patient's questions. Advice and clinical decisions belong to the licensed professional. If the patient is still unclear, the interpreter should ask the clinician to explain again rather than explain personally.
It depends on the receiving office. Some processes require attendance in person, while business meetings and preliminary consultations are routinely remote. Check with the office before fixing the format.
Put a confidentiality agreement in place before briefing materials are sent: scope of use, no unauthorised copies, and destruction of working notes afterwards. For health and other sensitive data, follow the Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562.
Common pairs in Thailand are routinely available. Less common pairs may need lead time and may have to be delivered remotely. Tell us the language, the variety and the setting at the outset so availability can be assessed honestly.

Consecutive work in small meetings can run longer stretches, but simultaneous work requires rotation because the cognitive load is very high. Pairing interpreters on full-day events protects quality late in the day.

Practice differs between registry offices, and the safer course is to keep the interpreter's role separate from the witnesses' so the registration cannot be questioned later. Arrange witnesses separately in the number the registrar requires.
